About Us

The need for an Alumni Society of the University of Lucknow has always been felt and several attempts had been made in the past for launching a forum where old students of the University of Lucknow could interact with each other and do something for the great Alma Mater.

In the year 2000, Sri Ram Kumar Bhargava and few others happened to meet Smt. Sheila Gautam -an alumnus of Lucknow University and Member of Parliament from Aligarh. Smt. Gautam was the President of Lucknow University Old Student Association in New Delhi. A meeting was also held at the residence of noted singer Sri Rajendra Mehta in Mumbai who introduced some of the very prominent people who had founded a very strong and active LU Alumni Association in Mumbai.

Sri Ram Kumar Bhargava, Sri Prabhat Chaturvedi, I.A.S., Sri Atul, I.P.S., Sri Virendra Bhatia alongwith Prof Anil K. Srivastava and few others met under the Patronage of Justice Dr AS Anand and Justice S.H.A. Raza and formed a Society in the name of “Lucknow Vishvavidyalaya Poorva Chhatra Samiti” . This was formally inaugurated by the Alumnus Justice A.S. The Society celebrated the 80th anniversary of the start of classes in the University (the first class in the University was held on 17th July, 1921) and had a great function presided over by the Chancellor and the Governor of Uttar Pradesh Acharya Vishnu Kant Shastri Ji in the auditorium of Sahkarita Bhawan. The Society has been holding regular meetings where distinguished alumni of the University from different fields are invited and felicitated. It is a great honour for us to be celebrating the Foundation day of the University which the Society proposed to be formally declared by Executive Council as 25th Novermber. This was the day 25 November, 1920, when the proposed bill for the establishment of the University of Lucknow received the assent of the Governor General.

The Society for the last 10 years has been continuously celebrating "Foundation Day" by felicitating – some of the distinguished Alumni . The Society also proposes to take up projects towards the welfare of students and create awareness about the high traditions and glory of the University. All of us, well-wishers of Lucknow University, fervently hope that the University remains a shining star in India’s educational firmament for a long time to come.
